plug invites applications from emerging curators to work with an experienced mentoring curator to develop and present an exhibition.

The plug Emerging Curator program will offer a unique opportunity for an emerging curator to work with an experienced mentoring curator to develop and present an exhibition to be held in the plug gallery space. This new, annual project in curatorial development seeks to provide emerging curators the support they need to further expand their vision and voice.

plug will provide the Emerging Curator with a budget of $1,000 to cover exhibition costs and a curatorial stipend of $1,000. Additional funding and staff support for printing, promotions, and execution of exhibition programming is available. The program will begin in March of 2022, with the exhibition taking place in October/November of 2022.  The Emerging Curator will also work with the mentor and board members to produce a digital catalogue for the exhibition. Further, plug will provide hands-on training experience and avenues of networking for the Emerging Curator. The program is intended to continue annually, as funding permits.

Local and regional candidates are encouraged to apply. Applicants should be in the early years of their curatorial practice (including recent graduates, graduate students or college seniors).

The selection panel includes two members of the plug board of directors, three members from the local arts community, and the 2022 Mentoring Curator.

The 2022 Mentoring Curator is Jade Powers, Assistant Curator at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.

Applicants will be required to submit, in A SINGLE PDF (no Google folders please!):

Letter of Intent (Cover letter) detailing their interest in the program and curatorial experience. Applicants should also include a brief description of possible curatorial direction(s) or areas of interest their project might address. Images and/or web links can be included if applicable.
